This little hotel blew us away, the minute we stepped in and we were met with kindness and enthusiasm from Ryo. My sister and I have traveled extensively and it takes a lot for us to have our expectations exceeded both in facilities and service. This room was truly such an amazing value. The people & service: Ryo and Yohei (spelling?) were so incredibly kind and helpful, providing suggestions, organizing the takkyubin services for us, and they both exuded a genuine care for our wellbeing. We were provided complimentary beverages upon our arrival, and they were consistently available to answer any questions we had. The room was always refreshed, with all the amenities and we truly appreciated returning back "home" to our room after a day of adventuring. The room: What a beautiful place for us to call our home for 8 days! We got a room with two full beds which was perfect for my sister and me. There was a nice "living room" area with a small couch and coffee table, plus a kitchenette which was equipped with a Balmuda toaster oven/microwave, mini fridge, coffee/tea setup, and sink. Down the hallway (seriously!) was the bathroom which was very large with two sinks, a nice shower, and a large hot tub; the toilet was located in its own room which was very convenient. Also, the toilet room always played classical music when you lifted the lid which was a pleasant touch ;) The bathroom was fully stocked with luxury brand soaps, that were replenished. They offered the softest Jinbei (Japanese pjs) - we ended up buying a set upon departure because we liked them so much! The location: This hotel was in the perfect spot - just far enough outside the "touristy main areas" which provided wonderful walks every day. It was centrally located near bus and train stations, a quick walk to Pontocho, Gion, Nishiki Market, Terramachi Street Shops, and all the multi-floor malls.

This wonderful gem is listed as a three star hotel but certainly feels like five star. I stayed in the Standard Double Room for three nights, which, for Japanese standards, is large. The bed is like sleeping in a cloud, the towels are the fluffiest I have ever used and the amenities are heavenly. I was very entertained by the toilet that opens when you enter the room and starts playing music as you sit on it. (Both can be turned off if you don't appreciate this small luxuries.) Manager Ryo was incredibly generous and helpful in solving a misunderstanding over the breakfast. I was very impressed by how quickly he responded to my email with a very clear explanation and a solution to the issue. It made me feel very welcome and heard and made my stay in Kyoto extra special. Once again, thank you Ryo! As for the location, it is a 14 minute walk to the closest metro station. I didn't use the metro, I just walked a lot! It's a 10 minute walk to Nishiki Market and the shopping streets. Gion is about 30 minutes on foot, as is Kyoto station in the other direction. Bring good walking shoes and your ready for your fabulous stay at Hotel Muso.

I stayed at this boutique hotel and had a superb experience. The room was clean and more spacious than most hotels in Japan, with fantastic amenities - Replica toiletries and branded complimentary water. The separate toilet and bath setup was very convenient, allowing one person to use the toilet while the other used the bath. The high-tech toilet was a nice touch. Also, the hotel provides a simple breakfast which they delivered in your room in the morning, it was a choice of sandwiches and drinks, it was delicious. I especially enjoyed the matcha latte and cappuccino. The customer service was excellent throughout my stay - Ryo was exceptional. The hotel is located in a local area rather than a touristy one, which allowed me to dine at authentic local restaurants and truly experience the culture. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a genuine local experience with all the comforts of a great boutique hotel.

We had the best time in Hotel Muso! We stayed a full week! It is a fairly small hotel, I would guess they have a maximum of 16 rooms, therefore it was nice and quiet. We had been given a bit of an upgrade, as it was pre-season and our room was very big. It also had kitchen facilities. Because it was our honeymoon we were welcomed to gorgeous decorations in the room. The service was very attentive and nice. It was also impeccably clean. Some days we didn't require cleaning service and we'd still receive a little bag of fresh towels, coffee and some water. There is also a breakfast service, you can book it a day prior and will receive some western style sandwiches and hot tea or coffee. The location is gorgeous, nice streets and not far from the river at all. The distance to the city center is also walkable. We have already said that we will come back!

We initially booked a standard room at Hotel Muso Kyoto, but it turned out to be quite small. When researching prior to our stay, we filtered reviews specifically for room size, and many mentioned that the rooms were large and comfortable. While the standard room is indeed on the smaller side it is very nice, we discovered that all other room types are spacious, modern, and well-appointed. Ryo's customer service was exceptional. He went above and beyond to ensure our comfort, offering us a larger room, which we gladly paid an extra for. The new room was everything we hoped for—spacious, stylish, and extremely comfortable. Overall, our experience was very positive, thanks to the excellent service and the quality of the room. I would recommend opting for a larger room if space is a priority for you.
