This little hotel blew us away, the minute we stepped in and we were met with kindness and enthusiasm from Ryo. My sister and I have traveled extensively and it takes a lot for us to have our expectations exceeded both in facilities and service. This room was truly such an amazing value. The people & service: Ryo and Yohei (spelling?) were so incredibly kind and helpful, providing suggestions, organizing the takkyubin services for us, and they both exuded a genuine care for our wellbeing. We were provided complimentary beverages upon our arrival, and they were consistently available to answer any questions we had. The room was always refreshed, with all the amenities and we truly appreciated returning back "home" to our room after a day of adventuring. The room: What a beautiful place for us to call our home for 8 days! We got a room with two full beds which was perfect for my sister and me. There was a nice "living room" area with a small couch and coffee table, plus a kitchenette which was equipped with a Balmuda toaster oven/microwave, mini fridge, coffee/tea setup, and sink. Down the hallway (seriously!) was the bathroom which was very large with two sinks, a nice shower, and a large hot tub; the toilet was located in its own room which was very convenient. Also, the toilet room always played classical music when you lifted the lid which was a pleasant touch ;) The bathroom was fully stocked with luxury brand soaps, that were replenished. They offered the softest Jinbei (Japanese pjs) - we ended up buying a set upon departure because we liked them so much! The location: This hotel was in the perfect spot - just far enough outside the "touristy main areas" which provided wonderful walks every day. It was centrally located near bus and train stations, a quick walk to Pontocho, Gion, Nishiki Market, Terramachi Street Shops, and all the multi-floor malls.

Getting to this place wasn't difficult, it's sort of hidden away from the main street but with GPS it was really easy to get there. It's located in a convenient place to see a good majority of the tourist spots in Kyoto, some were only a 10-20 minute walk from the hotel and going further was usually a train or two away. The place itself is beautiful. They have their own small kitchen with a small oven (like a microwave), mid-sized fridge filled with free drinks, and silverware available to make tea or coffee along with a coffee machine. Near the coffee machine, they have a container filled with a variety of teas and coffee pods. They have no restaurant for breakfast, so they have a service to bring breakfast to your room. Breakfast was western-style cuisine with a variety of drink options such as iced lattes, coffee, teas, and juices for breakfast. The food ingredients changed daily so there was no getting tired of the same taste during my week stay. Beds were comfortable and soft. Amenities were all good products, and the bathroom was huge! Definitely a fancy place! I enjoyed the atmosphere and it's next door from the local convenience store. Getting to the train was also convenient, only a 5-10 minute walk to the station plus a multitude of small cafes, stores, and beautiful scenery while walking past. It's also close to the main shopping district where the Nintendo Store is. I also enjoyed that it was close to the laundromat :). Staff is really polite, sweet, and nice!

This is the BEST hotel we’ve stayed at so far during our month-long trip in Japan. We had been to Kyoto before (and stayed at a 5-star property), but I can confidently say that Hotel Muso is far superior! • It’s modern. • Spotlessly clean. • Offers dozens of thoughtful amenities, including complimentary bottled water in generous quantities. (For comparison, we’re currently at a Hilton in another city where we receive two bottles per day. At Hotel Muso, we were provided double that amount, along with many small gifts like face masks, soothing oils for the skin and hair, etc.). Their attention to detail is unmatched in my opinion. • The shower is the best we’ve ever experienced, with incredible water pressure. • The comfortable, high-tech toilet (a standard in Japan) even plays classical music while in use. The location is also superb—within walking distance of many attractions and conveniently close to bus stops. Let me know if you’d like further tweaks!

I stayed at this boutique hotel and had a superb experience. The room was clean and more spacious than most hotels in Japan, with fantastic amenities - Replica toiletries and branded complimentary water. The separate toilet and bath setup was very convenient, allowing one person to use the toilet while the other used the bath. The high-tech toilet was a nice touch. Also, the hotel provides a simple breakfast which they delivered in your room in the morning, it was a choice of sandwiches and drinks, it was delicious. I especially enjoyed the matcha latte and cappuccino. The customer service was excellent throughout my stay - Ryo was exceptional. The hotel is located in a local area rather than a touristy one, which allowed me to dine at authentic local restaurants and truly experience the culture. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a genuine local experience with all the comforts of a great boutique hotel.

A family member and I stayed in a 2 full bed room at Hotel Muso. Positives: -Room is spacious, new, and absolutely spotless. -Great bathroom, nice shower with 2 different shower head options and a *huge* bathtub. -Toilet is in a separate room with a very high tech bidet/washlet that plays music when you sit on it. -Beds are very comfortable (I guess more firm than soft, but I like that) -Room is nicely insulated from outside sound and weather. -Staff is extremely, extremely friendly, and fluent in English. -Location. This hotel is minutes walk to the Kamogawa River area, which has a lot of restaurants and bars. From the hotel you can easily walk to tourist sites like Kinninji Temple or even Kiyomizu-dera. -There is a brand new 24hour 7/11 convenience store almost next door, 30 seconds by foot. -A free simple breakfast and drink (coffee, tea, etc) was offered every morning of our stay.
